An anonymous reader of this blog recently left a link to a comment piece, from the Telegraph, that referenced a horrific crime that took place, a month or so ago, in the Tottenham Hale area of south Tottenham:
In a north London suburb, a schoolgirl was beaten, gang-raped and then had drain-cleaning fluid poured on her body apparently to destroy DNA evidence.
In the eternal cesspit of senseless urban crime, I feel last week that a dreadful nadir of sorts has been reached, a benchmark of slaked lust and casual sadistic cruelty ... the attackers have been described as "five black youths" [1]
The Sun reported the story in a little more detail:
A schoolgirl was raped by a gang who poured caustic soda over her body to destroy DNA evidence ... the gang [said to have been five black youths] beat the teenager before taking turns to rape her in an empty house in Tottenham...
Doctors feared the girl would die but she pulled through and is now stable in a burns unit ... a police source said: “She has appalling injuries from which she will never fully recover...” [2]
While both of these reports mentioned the ethnicity of the alleged rapists neither gave a description of the victim that include her own ethnicity; a point addressed later in this post.
Perhaps this attack was just an isolated incident, or a rare occurrence, as the media are apt to infer when a particularly horrendous crime takes place; though sadly events of this nature are not new as can be seen from Tottenham in 2006:
police are hunting [three black men] in connection with the vicious rape of a woman in an alleyway in Tottenham. They would not disclose the victim's age for fear of compromising the investigation. [3]
Or indeed London as a whole.
From Hackney in 2008:
A 14-year-old girl has been raped by a gang of youths in Homerton ... Detectives are urging anybody with information on the "heinous assault" to come forward. They have described the suspects as three black boys aged between 15 and 16 years old. [4]
From Lewisham in 2006:
He called the 25-year-old a "white bitch" and drove her back to the Sydenham flat, where the accomplice was again waiting to pounce ... held a 7in long knife to the the sobbing woman's throat [5]
From Crystal Palace in 2005:
A 16-year-old girl was bundled into a car while walking home and gang raped in a leisure centre car park.
The [four] suspects are said to be in their 20s. Two of them are described as black ... The other two are said to be light-skinned black males ... Police say the victim was white [6]
From Clapham, south London, in 2007:
Four men who filmed themselves on mobile phones raping a teenager were given lengthy prison sentences yesterday ... [being] Idris Adeokun, Emmanuel Garrick, James Olamrewaju, and Jayce Baptiste [7]
From Tooting in 2007:
A teenager has been jailed for 12 years for the "horrific and relentless" rape of a woman at a brothel. Jermaine Green, 17, was part of a group of up to six men who broke into the brothel [and took part in the attack] [8]
From south London in 2007:
Two schoolgirls were attacked during a "terrible ordeal of rape, humiliation and degradation" after being lured to a park by a gang of boys, a court heard. [9]
Some might say that this is purely a symptom of the state of the, so-called, 'inner city' areas of London such as Tottenham, Hackney, and Lewisham.
Though this somehow does not then explain the following crimes:
From Glasgow in 2007:
A 30-year-old woman has been raped by a gang of four men in Glasgow. The men were described as being of Afro Caribbean appearance. [10]
From Oldham in 2007 :
A 12-year-old girl was raped up to 15 times by four men after she was abducted as she asked for directions to her home ... [Shakil] Chowdhury was jailed for six years ... Detectives are still hunting the other members of the gang. [11]
From Liverpool in 2006:
A teenage girl was repeatedly raped and beaten [by three black youths] during a gang sex attack. [12]
From Spalding, Lincolnshire, in 2005:
Three men [from Iraq] who took part in a sex attack on a Lincolnshire woman have been jailed for a total of 24 years. Star Ahmad, Mohedin Amin and Sahid Sherwan were each given eight years after their behaviour was condemned by the judge as "abominable". [13]
From Blackpool, Lancashire, in 2005
A 15-year-old was raped by a gang of four men at a house in Blackpool, a court has been told. Awat Ahmed ... was one of four Kurdish men ... [the] three other men wanted for the attack have not been traced ... Hana Zana Sahli, Karim Faraidon Nzar, Taha Abdulla [14] [15]
From Stanley, County Durham, in 2005:
The 17-year-old was ... raped by a staff member after asking to use a toilet ... at the Spice Mahal takeaway, in Craghead near Stanley in County Durham ... Police named two of the men as Sarabjit Singh and Harjinda Singh ... both men [were] the subject of immigration applications [16]
Others might suggest this is a modern phenomenon, a new type of crime, indicative of higher levels of crime in the country.
Though this is not borne out by these stories from the past two decades:
Six years ago from Kings Cross, London, in 2002:
A minicab driver has been jailed for nine years for his part in the gang-rape of two Christmas revellers. Salam Rahman, Mohammed Elahi, and two other men, attacked their victims in separate incidents just before Christmas 2000. [17]
Six years ago from Ilford, east London, in 2002:
A "degenerate" gang who raped and attacked young girls they picked up in a town centre were jailed for a total of 17 years ... Tunde Akinselure, Nester Soverall, Sood Ahmed, and Ramon Markins ... carried out a "horrible catalogue" of crimes [on] three 14-year-old girls and one 13-year-old in Ilford town centre [18]
Seven years ago from central London in 2001
Three McDonald's employees [were] found guilty of plotting to gang rape a Cambridge undergraduate ... [the plotters being] Andrew Udenze, Sayek Miah, and Anthony Ugoh. [19]
Eight years ago from St Leonards, Hastings, Sussex, in 2000:
Three eastern european asylum seekers were being sought last night after a 20-year-old care worker was gang-raped in a Sussex seaside town [20]
Eight years ago in Ladbroke Grove, West London, in 2000:
The victim told the court how she was surrounded and robbed before being thrown into the canal ... she was then caught, kicked and punched repeatedly and, at one stage, dragged naked along a gravel path, lacerating her bare skin.
A 15-year-old [black] boy tore off her trousers and raped the woman ... [then] Marvin Edwards [black], 18, also raped her ... the 14-strong group ... looked on and shouted encouragement as the brutal attack unfolded [21]
Eleven year ago in Kings Cross, London, in 1997:
... eight teenage savages convicted in 1997 of the horrific gang-rape of an Austrian tourist taking a midnight stroll in London ... snatched pretty mother of two Alexandra Sablatnig ... they attacked her chanting 'F*** the white bitch', kicked and punched her, stripped her naked then raped her repeatedly ... [she] was then thrown into a canal and left for dead. [22]
The [trial] judge said a particularly offensive aspect of the rape was the "racial element" in the way that the victim was described as a "white bitch". [23] [24]
Lastly, twenty three years ago in Brixton, south London, in 1985:
The [two English] girls, both aged 16, were walking home in the early hours after a night out when they were dragged into a damp, cold garage on the Stockwell Park council estate, where the gang lived. For two hours their attackers, who had abducted them only 100 yards from Brixton police station, took it in turns to rape them. One was raped 30 times, the other 15.
In the immediate aftermath of the rape, Sophie changed from a wilful, streetwise and sociable teenager to a withdrawn, broken girl who was too frightened to leave her house and would have dozens of baths a day.
Convinced that the gang was going to find her and attack her again, she suffered "horrifying" nightmares, flashbacks and acute anxiety. [25] [26] [27]
This last crime only came back, relatively recently, to the media's attention due to the fact that the then leader of the gang, now with a new identity, was featured prominently in the BBC's coverage of the aftermath of the 7/7 London terrorist bombings, as a 'hero'.

A paltry smattering of examples of gang rape from the period before the year 2000 may seem insignificant, but this is more a result an insufficient record of reporting, rather than a lack of real incidents.
An individual relying purely on the Internet alone for research encounters a problem when looking for crimes that took place before the very late 1990's, with the only other option being to manually comb the archives of local newspapers.
Exceptions to this, as exampled above, do exist, but mostly only due to their notoriety. Although sometimes, with luck, earlier reports of less notorious incidents of gang rape, such as the following from 1996 and 1997, can be found.
Birmingham, August 1996:
Six teenage boys ... were convicted yesterday of subjecting three schoolgirls to a prolonged sex attack after dragging them off the street into a tower block. Two of the girls, one aged 13 and the other 15, were raped several times ... a second 13-year-old was indecently assaulted ... a woman on the balcony of a nearby flat heard one of the girls sobbing and pleading: "Let me go." [The rapists included] Jahmel Randall ... Dito Raphael ... Asher Clarke [29]
Shepherds Bush, west London, May 1997:
A girl of nine ... was raped by [five] boys ... four aged 10 and one nine ... at her primary school ... she was assaulted in a lavatory at the school in Shepherds Bush, west London [30] [31]
Wood Green, north London, February 1997:
Five [black] teenagers ... were convicted of their parts in the ... "long and depraved" ... gang rape of a 16-year-old virgin on her way to a music lesson.The youths ... joked ... laughed and cheered as they took it in turns to rape and indecently assault the girl over two hours in a shopping centre car park in Wood Green, north London.the girl, a music student, described as bright and outgoing [was now] withdrawn and moody [32] [33]
In none of these three accounts is the ethnicity of either the gang rapists or their victims given, although it may be possible to take a guess using some clues.
For example in the Birmingham case the names of at least three of the convicted rapists would, more often than not, be associated with 'black' youths:
Jahmel Randall,
Dito Raphael, and
Asher Clarke.
Also from personal experience, having lived in the near vicinity of Wood Green during the 1990's, I can recollect reading about the last of these crimes in the local papers at the time, and remember that the gang responsible were black.
From the evidence of all of these examples of gang rape so far, and many more documented on websites such as
I am an Englishman [34] and
The UK Enrichment News [35], it would not be unfair to suggest that two of the factors that do not affect the incidence of the crime of gang rape are either geographic location or which recent period of time is considered.
After removing these two particular factors an impartial observer might now possibly be able to tease out a common thread running through these crimes; this being that the rapists are dominantly ethnic immigrants, and many of the crimes have an inter-racial element to them; with the victims often being English (or Scottish).
Another observer might counter this by claiming that the examples given have been
'cherry picked' to support a preconceived view.
Fortunately for the former observer their view is backed up, over the years, by a number of media reports exploring the
'black' factor in the rising number of gang rapes over the past decade.
For example in 1998 Darcus Howe, a 'leading' black, left-wing, media commentator had to concede that
86% [36] of all gang rapists were black, after he chaired a talk show discussing the findings of a Channel 4 documentary that had revealed the figures for black youth involvement in gang rape.
Incidentally the announcement of the intention to air the documentary immediately led to calls to demonstrate outside Channel 4 headquarters by black organisations such as the
National Assembly Against Racism, who were somewhat troubled over the programs research that showed that most gang rapes were carried out by black youths.

In Howe's own words:
courts revealed that ... in 80 [86%] per cent of the cases of gang rape ... the defendants are black
Young women were hijacked from bus stops, taken to homes or to filthy common spaces on council estates and raped time and time again. One girl claimed that she was unable to walk for a month thereafter.
producers were perfectly entitled to go down that road ... Channel 4 was right to show the film [37]
Six years later in 2004 the media were reporting that ethnic immigrants were responsible for
62% of gang rapes in London, that the problem was spreading to other areas of the country, and that a disproportionate number of the victims were 'white'.
The Telegraph reported:
There has been a group sex [gang rape] for every day of the last year ... Scotland Yard is treating the evidence with care because it has sensitive racial overtones. It suggests a disproportionately high involvement of young black or Asian males in group sex [gang rape] attacks and that a high proportion of the victims are white
suspects of African/Caribbean appearance were identified in 49 per cent of attacks. A further 13 per cent were committed by men of Indian/Pakistani appearance
Women and girls of white/European appearance accounted for 59 per cent of victims
there is evidence of group [gang] rape is rising in other inner city areas of Britain [38]
These facts were also reported by the BBC a few days later.

The Telegraph article prompted a rather strange letter from the, then, Metropolitan Police Commissioner, 'Sir' John Stephens, who peculiarly wrote
"disproportionality on racial criteria is an issue affecting both offender and victim" while excusing the horrendous attacks as
"a phenomenon of disaffected youngsters".

How exactly '
disproportionality' affects offenders is more than a little puzzling; some might argue that there is little hope left when the head of London's Metropolitan Police parrots the language of the left.
The motivation for this rather odd intervention from the Chief of the Met might be surmised after reading a 2005 article from the Guardian which discussed the '
semantic strings of political correctness' in relation to gang rape:
The Met now prefers the term "group rape" ... for official police usage ... one reason [being] that "gang rape" has become racially charged [as] gang rape carries an implicit message about ... race [with journalists being] ... advised [that the] correct non-inflammatory term is "group rape" [41]
Meanwhile within the same article someone closer to the coal face disagrees:
[a] forensic gynaecologist at The Haven [a charity for rape victims] ... says:"I think 'gang rape' should not be replaced by 'group rape' because gang rapes still exist as a form of initiation in certain cultures [41]
In the second of these two comments the use of the phrase "
in certain cultures" suggests a
foreignness, or a '
not in this country' aspect to the opinion, which can be seen as both right and wrong at the same time, after considering two other newspaper reports about the rise of gang rape in the cities of the UK; one from the Independent in 2002
[42], and the second from the Observer in 2004
[43].
In each of these a litany of gang rape cases are presented alongside speculation on the rise in gang rape, with both articles using almost the exact wording: "
girls were being forced into group sex as part of gang initiations on inner-city estates".
So the '
not in this country' of "
in certain cultures" is wrong, as in fact gang rape as gang initiation is taking place in the cities of the UK; but right in it's
foreignness as the gangs that commit these foul deeds are often ethnic immigrants who do originate from foreign fields.
Also the first comment's explanation of the Met's rationale behind trying to replace the use of
gang rape with
group rape, because of the formers 'racial overtones', should be questioned as this crime, whatever it's label, does have distinct racial overtones, as can be seen in a Guardian newspaper article from 2004, '
They don't see it as rape. They just see it as pleasure for them.' , which explicitly states that:
"The added element in this is ethnicity" ... "A lot of people in the field are angry about this, but won't speak" ... I lose count of how many government agencies, schools and official establishments refuse to comment for this story. They say the same thing. "Sorry. It's too sensitive" [44]
To blame the police directly for attempting to re-label gang rape would be wrong as they are always at the beck and call of the whim of which ever flavour of government is in power; in this case the socialists of New Labour.
While London's police busy theirselves trying to not 'call a dog a dog' the media have mixed success in reporting the crime of gang rape. For though there were a spate of newspaper reports on the topic of gang rape around the year 2004, some might even suggest that the media, while not actually involved in a cover up of such crimes, sometimes ignores the more controversial examples of inter-racial crime.
For example few, if any, of the local papers
[45] that report on Tottenham covered the crime mentioned at the beginning of this post, and where they have, they have failed
[46] to give as full a report as already quoted from the national newspapers. This being in spite of the fact that these same local papers find ample space to cover the supposed rewards of a 'multi-cultural UK'.

None of this is helped when national media organisations such as the BBC are either purposely scant with their details and descriptions, or emphasise the non racial aspects of the more notorious cases of gang rape
A typical series of reports by the BBC from 2006 show how the omission of certain details can mislead.
The BBC's first report, '
Gang hunted after woman is raped'
[48], about the gang rape of an 18-year-old woman, in the Oxfordshire town of Didcot, gives fairly detailed descriptions of the suspects, which at first glance indicate English culprits. The next day's report, '
Five arrested over rape in park'
[49], lists only the mens ages. It is only with the third day's report, '
Three men charged with park rape'
[50], that some clue as to the men's origin emerges when their names are listed as, the traditionally English sounding:
Peter Stopko,
Marec Schwartz, and
Matus Fecko.
Who ever decided not to include the wording '
Eastern European' in the very first report, whether the police or the BBC, the reason and motivation for doing so would make for interesting reading.
A second example, involving the 2000 Ladbroke Grove canal gang rape, previously mentioned, shows the BBC emphasizing the fact, complete with a large leading photographic image, that a, presumably English, girl had been convicted of rape.
A teenage girl who pinned a woman to the ground during a "vile and horrifying" sex attack has been found guilty of rape. [21a]
Though reading the full story shows that her part, as one of a fourteen strong gang, consisted only of 'pining' the victim down; while the two men who actually committed the rape were
black.

Suspicions that the media are ignoring some of the more uncomfortable aspects of inter-racial crime are also not helped by the infamous case of the Channel 4 documentary
[52] that was pulled from the schedules because of it's topic;
the targeting of very young English children by Indian and Pakistani immigrant paedophilic gang rapists.
The documentary was to have reported:
that white [English] girls as young as 11 were being sexually abused ... raped and gang raped ... by Asian men who encouraged their dependency on drugs over a period of time [53]
But was deemed unsuitable for broadcast because:
Channel 4 said police feared the new documentary "would increase community tensions in Bradford" ... "with the risk that it would lead to public disorder" [53]
Additionally the courts have also stepped in more than once to ban the media from reporting the full details of a particular gang rape case, as for example in the attack on the Austrian tourist, detailed before, where the Daily mail was found in contempt of court for giving details of certain matters
[54], a ban which the newspaper later challenged.

All of these factors in the reporting of ethnic immigrant gang rape; the police attempting to replace the term 'gang rape', the deficiency of full descriptions and consistent reportage in the media, local newspapers not reporting national stories local to them, the courts trying to suppress 'certain details', demonstrations against factual television programs by ethnic immigrant pressure groups, and documentaries on the subject of gang rape being pulled from advertised schedules, combine to prevent a completely clear picture of the problem of gang rape emerging.
Adding to this lack of full and consistent media reporting the lack of full and consistent official data and statistics on gang rape, results in anyone wanting to know more, to prove or disprove any thoughts they may have on the occurrence of this crime, having to rely on purely anecdotal evidence gleaned from reports in the media.
Although one thing is very nearly absolutely clear; ethnically English gang rapists are noticeably conspicuous by their absence.
If, therefore, there is no way, for whatever reason, of knowing exactly what the figures are for inter-racial gang rape, at least it is possible to use some mathematical logic to estimate what these figures should, approximately, be.
[An explanation of this mathematical method is given at the end of this post after the references
[Method].]
Making this estimate the results show, unintuitive as it may seem, that the incidence of inter-racial gang rape should be
reciprocal: that is for
every case of ethnic immigrant gang rapists with English victim(s) there should be a
reciprocal case of English gang rapists with ethnic immigrant victim(s).
A question then arises, as already mentioned, about the conspicuous absence of the ethnic English in the crime of gang rape; where are all the cases of violent English gang rapists preying on ethnic immigrant victims? As from the many examples given above they do not exist; and if they do not exist why is this so?
To begin the search for some form of answer to these questions some additional evidence needs to be looked at. It is possible, on the Internet, to find a document titled '
The Color of Crime'
[56] which, using official US government data on crimes committed between the years 2001 and 2003, attempts to unravel any possible hidden relationships between 'race' and crime in the US.
Amongst the many interesting facts and figures presented one stands out more starkly than the rest. This being the incidence of inter-racial gang rape as stated on page 17 of the document:
The NCVS tells us that interracial multiple-of-fender offenses are even more lopsidedly black than interracial crime as a whole. In fact, whereas blacks committed 10,000 gang-rapes against whites between
2001 and 2003, the NCVS samples did not pick up a single “white”-on-black gang rape. [56]
A more dramatic disproportionality in the area of crime would be hard to imagine.
While unfortunately the exact method used to reach this figure is not referenced within the document it is possible to visit the US
Department of Justice website: Bureau of Justice Statistics [57], to see the data on which much document's statistical analysis was based.
This data was collected in the US by the
National Crime Victimization Survey, similar to the UK's
British Crime Survey. In particular three tables, from the
Criminal Victimization in the United States - Statistical Tables Index section
[58], show proof of something strange taking place; evidence of disproportionate lopsidedness when comparing black-on-white to white-on-black crime.
The first table shows that for every
one victim of
white multiple-offender rape/sexual assault there are nearly
four victims of
black multiple-offender rape/sexual assault.

The second table shows, taking into account the number of victims violent crime (including rape and sexual assault), that for
every single black victim of
white gang violence there are nearly
13 white victims of
black gang violence.

The third table shows that for the year of 2005 in the US that while
37460 white women were raped/sexually assaulted by black men,
no black women were raped/sexually assaulted by white men.

Combining the weight of this new empirical evidence from the US, with the anecdotal evidence of the many media reports referenced so far from the UK, possibly points to several conclusions including the fact of the disproportionate involvement of ethnic immigrants (in the UK and blacks in the US) in the crime of gang rape.
Whether this is because the English/whites commit crime such as gang rape at a lower rate than ethnic immigrants/blacks, or that ethnic immigrants/blacks commit gang rape at an unnaturally high rate, the result is still the same; as both of these can explain the absence or low occurrence of English/white on ethnic-immigrant/black, and the reason for the disproportionate number of English/white victims.
Another salient point might be postulated; that the sadistic violence that sometimes accompanies gang rape is more often reserved for English/white victims by ethnic-immigrant/black gang rapists.
Two last example cases of black-on-white gang rape, one from the UK and the other from the US, help to illustrate this, while also maybe helping to identify the ethnicity of the young 16-year-old girl gang raped so recently in Tottenham by revealing clues to help in this deduction:
The first clue being that the young girl was beaten before she was raped. This bares a resemblance to treatment meted out to Mary Anne Leneghan, a young sixteen year old Reading school girl, who was abused and beaten before she was tortured, raped, and then murdered by a gang of black men
[62] in May 2005:
After a three-hour ordeal of torture ... with cigarettes, knives, a metal bar and boiling water [63] ... and rape in a hotel room they were driven in the boot of Adams' car to nearby Prospect Park where Mary-Ann's friend was forced to watch as the younger girl was "butchered" in front of her. [64]
She [was] stabbed more than 40 times and her throat [was] slit. [65]
As Mary-Ann lay dying, her friend had a gun put to her head and was shot at point blank range. [64]
The only fortunate part of the young school girls horrific ordeal in Tottenham is that she survived, not meeting the same final fate of Mary Anne Leneghan.
The second clue is in the use of drain cleaner to supposedly remove any trace of DNA evidence. This more worryingly shows striking similarities to the little reported rapes of Channon Christain and Christopher Newsom that took place in Knoxville, USA, in 2007:
Christopher was raped (in front of Channon) by multiple assailants, his penis was cut off, he was shot multiple times, his body was set on fire, and, finally, his corpse was taken away and dumped alongside railroad tracks.
the perpetrators next focused their depravity on Channon. Over the ensuing two days, they beat her, gang-raped her, urinated upon her, cut off one of her breasts (while she was still alive), and poured bleach down her throat [to eliminate DNA evidence]. As with Christopher, they finished up by shooting her multiple times and setting her body on fire [66] [67]
Taking the parallels of these three violent crimes into account it might not be considered unfair to guess that the victim of the Tottenham gang rape was 'white', English or otherwise.
Again taking these last two sadistically violent gang rapes, that both ended in the murder of the victims, into account it is frightening to think that the UK may be following the US in it's future trends of crime.
Before finally considering the one possible overriding factor involved in the incidence of the crime of gang rape in the UK, the one last excuse of the political left, often used to try to counter uncomfortable facts concerning crime that come to light, must be dealt with:
poverty and
deprivation, and their variants.
A quick glance at several of the media reports referenced so far reveals copious examples of the use of these excuses in their many vapid guises:
• A south-east London social workers who questions whether:
"the black community is the most marginalised and pressurised, and does that lead to emotional consequences?" [44a]
• A black journalist who thinks that:
'a "sense of powerlessness" lay[s] at the root of sexual violence by Afro-Caribbean men' [36a]
• A nameless spokesman from the official 'anti-racist' body of the UK, the now superseded
Commission for Racial Equality who says:
"We need more data and we need to know it is being collected in a robust and methodologically sound way" [44b]
• Lastly the previously noted quote from Sir John Stephens who wrote of gang rapes in the UK as:
"a phenomenon of disaffected youngsters" [40a]
Tellingly the twin excuses of
poverty and
deprivation dissipate into nothingness when they abjectly fail to explain two reported, alleged, gang rapes by highly paid
black footballers who earn their living in the UK.
The first took place in September 2003 in a central London hotel:
Police investigating an alleged rape involving eight Premiership footballers are examining hotel CCTV footage
The Attorney General has warned the press about possible prejudicial reporting because of the high profile of the people involved. [68]
Considered a 'high profile' case the government intervened
[69] to try to keep the names of the footballers concerned from entering the public domain, with eventually, as in the gang rape of the Austrian tourist referred to previously, the courts stepping in to stop the media from publishing certain details, leading to the Daily Star being fined £60,000
[70] for publishing the names of two of the arrested black footballers; Titus Bramble and Carlton Cole.
The second case took place one year later in 2004:
A girl allegedly gang-raped by a group of footballers was told to "act happy" as she was filmed, a court has heard. [71]
In both these cases the gangs of black footballers were eventually 'cleared'
[72] [73], although the young girl from the first case considered bringing about a private prosecution
[74]. Reading through the media reports the age old saying '
no smoke without fire' may spring to mind.
As the Telegraph newspaper commented in 2004:
This predatory attitude [of gang rape] toward women is not confined to an underclass, but is apparently shared by some of the most affluent and respected young men in the country [75]
Two excuses, so often bandied about as though they were actual factors able to excuse the crime of gang rape fully away are actually nothing of the sort.
So finally, after stripping away one factor after another, it may be possible to state the overriding factor in the modern day occurrence of gang rape in the UK.
Though for this we turn to the ever 'choice' words of Mr Trevor Phillips, the extravagantly paid head of the equally extravagantly titled organisation the
'Equality and Human Rights Commission'. Words put forth himself in an article in the Independent newspaper in 1998, rather ironically titled, considering the topic of this post, '
The grave danger of turning [gang] rape into a racial issue'.
Here Mr Phillips, true to form as a New Labour flunky, when trying to explain away the predominance of black gang rape, trots out the previously noted excuses of
poverty and
deprivation as
"poor performance of local schools" and
"alienation caused by chronic youth unemployment".
After his attempt at excusing abhorrent behaviour from certain sections of the 'community', close to his heart, he notes with surprise that it is not possible to
"find similar crimes being carried out by groups of [English] men".
Seemingly shaken and troubled by this lack of English youth involvement in gang rape Mr Phillips desperately throws open all the stops, and while ignorant of many of the facts presented in this post, puts forward an outstandingly weak logical 'argument' along the lines of: the police say there are hardly any 'white' gang rapists, but the police are racist, so therefore we can not trust their, and the courts, facts and figures.
Presumably very simple to understand facts and figures such as
black males are 8.5 times more likely to be charged with rape.

Mr Phillips then, surprisingly, states:
my attitude to the issue of rape is coloured by my history and is neither rational nor intelligent ... what my great aunts would call "niggerish" [76]
In context Mr Phillips words actually relate to his views on [gang] rapists in general, who in his words again should be
"exposed, shamed and generally crucified" and
marked "exterminate", though whether this view chimes with the New Labour government policy on crime and punishment is rather doubtful, but still Mr Phillips sentiments are, for once, admirable.
Mr Phillips brandishment of the word
niggerish, and by inference the concept of 'niggerishness' is interesting to say the least, but instead of coyly using it to describe himself, and some of his attitudes, he should have been brave enough to ascribe the word to where it belongs: to the one last factor that underlines so many of the crimes and criminal trends laid out in this post.
For perhaps it is here we need to invoke the use of the principal of
Occam's razor.
To quote from Wikipedia:
Occam's razor is often paraphrased as "All other things being equal, the simplest solution is the best." In other words, when multiple competing theories are equal in other respects, the principle recommends selecting the theory that introduces the fewest assumptions and postulates the fewest entities [77]
To the author of this blog, at least, applying this principal to the evidence provided so far reveals quite clearly the main cause of the disproportionate incidence of gang rapes.
Mr Phillips' one last question in his article is:
The problem here is that we don't know if we have found a local phenomenon or something larger
Something larger Mr Phillips, something larger.

A method for comparing crime rates between separate (ethnic) groups (

Assume a country has two distinct populations, group A and group B, where the age profile is approximately similar for each group.
If both group A and group B commit any given crime at the
same rate as each other, and chose their victim(s)
randomly, then the number of victims from each group, where the perpetrator is from the other group, for the given crime, will be the same:
that is the number of
A-on-B victims should be
the same as the number of
B-on-A victims
If one of the groups either commits the crime at a higher or lower rate, or targets one of the groups non-randomly, then the number of A-on-B victims will not be the same as the number of B-on-A victims.
Although this may not seem intuitive it is the case mathematically.
This is due to the fact in mathematics
multiplication is
commutative [78]:
that is to say that
x * y is equal to
y * x
If group A makes up x% of the total population it should commit x% of crime.
If group B makes up y% of the population it should make up y% of group A's victims.
Therefore group B victims of group A criminals should equal y% of x%.
The opposite should be true when calculating group A victims of group B criminals which should be equal to x% of y%.
A simple example should suffice to demonstrate this method.
Imagine a geographic area with two distinct populations, group A and group B.
Group A = 90% of the population.
Group B = 10% of the population.
Total = 100% of the population.
Group A, who make up 90% of the total population, should commit 90% of a given crime.
If group A commit their crime totally randomly then:
90% of A's victims should be from group A (who make 90% of the total population)
therefore to calculate A-on-A crimes we use: 90% of 90% = 81%
10% of A's victims should be from group B (who make 10% of the total population)
therefore to calculate A-on-B crimes we use: 90% of 10% = 9%
Group B, who make up 10% of the total population, should commit 10% of a given crime.
If group B commit their crime totally randomly then:
90% of B's victims should be from group A (who make 90% of the total population)
therefore to calculate B-on-A crimes we use: 10% of 90% = 9%
10% of B's victims should be from group B (who make 10% of the total population)
therefore to calculate B-on-B crimes we use: 10% of 10% = 1%
To summarise:
A-on-A victims = 81%
A-on-B victims = 9%
B-on-A victims = 9%
B-on-B victims = 1%

Total victims = 100%
Notice from this example that the percentage of A-on-B crimes, and the percentage
of B-on-A crimes, from the total of all incidences of a crime, are exactly equal.
This can perhaps be better illustrated as a table:

This relationship, between A-on-B and B-on-A, obviously holds true no matter what the actual percentage is. It also holds true if there are more than two groups.
Using this method it is possible to see any disproportionality in inter-group crime purely by comparing the total
number of crimes; without having to know
how large a population is, or
what percentage any given group makes up of the total population.
If the number of crimes committed between any two groups is not reciprocal then factors such as one group being disproportionality responsible for the crime, or one group targeting the other group, may be responsible for the non-reciprocality.
